Green Public Procurement (GPP) is the process whereby public authorities seek to procure goods, services and works with a reduced environmental impact throughout their life cycle when compared to goods, services and works with the same primary function that would otherwise be procured. The basic concept of GPP relies on having clear, verifiable, justifiable, and ambitious environmental criteria for products and services, based on a life-cycle approach and scientific evidence base.
In order to follow GPP, criteria are developed for products and services. For Textile Products, criteria predominantly relate to eco-design, fibre sourcing, chemical restrictions, durability and repairability.

"As these criteria relate to public procurement, the impacts are predominantly felt by public sector organisations. These are likely to include:
- Financial: There might be an initial increase in costs, as sustainable goods can sometimes be more expensive than conventional ones. However, in the long run, investing in durable and sustainable textiles could lead to financial savings due to reduced replacement costs.
- Supply Chain Changes: Organizations might need to alter or expand their list of suppliers to meet GPP criteria
- Reputation: Could improve the public image of the organisation"
